Tyler James Nicholson Memorial Award for Music Performance

Description: On May 2, 2013, Tyler (known by many as “Dean”) was killed in a tragic car accident in Toronto, Ontario, at the age of 27. He was on his way home from a concert where he was doing what he loved playing music. From the early years, Tyler was a devoted music fan who enjoyed going to concerts where he could always be found in the front row. His proudest achievement was co-founding his band, The Dean Project. Tyler put everything into his band, and made an impact on many lives through his music, his sense of humour, and his caring nature. Given his love of music and compassion for others, Tyler’s family established this award as a fitting tribute to his memory. The objective of this award will be to ease the financial strain for promising musicians who are pursuing post-secondary education.
