Cst. Robb Costello Scholarship

Description: This annual award will be available for students enrolled in the Police (Science) Cadet program. Applicants must write a 500-1000 word essay on the importance of de-escalation techniques in policing.

The Cst. Robb Costello Scholarship has been created in memory of Cst. Robb Costello who graduated from Holland College’s Atlantic Police Academy in 1988. He immediately began serving his community as a police officer on the Fredericton Police Force, where he worked for 20 years. His life was taken in the line of duty on August 10, 2018. Constable Costello attended the Police Academy as a mature student, thanks to the financial assistance of a member of his then wife’s family. While policing, he often employed de-escalation techniques to resolve conflict and advocated for its use within the policing community.

Criteria: It is preferred that the applicants be mature students who are a visible minority or a woman.
