Shannon Murray, in Memory of
Shannon Murray was born and grew up in Bathurst, New Brunswick. He graduated from Bathurst High School in 1972. Shannon worked at Bathurst Consolidated Pulp and Paper Ltd. for a couple of years fulfilling many different jobs to save enough money for college. He ended up attending Holland College’s Commercial Design program in Charlottetown under the instruction of Henry Purdy and Russell Stewart. Shannon fell in love with the Island and decided to call PEI home.
He was fortunate to begin working for CBC part-time while working for the Holland College Graphic Department with Ron Walsh, a fellow graduating student of the Commercial Design program. After working at CBC for a year, he was then hired full-time as a CBC Design Assistant and was one of only six across the whole country. He created and prepared On-Air Graphics and Artwork for the TV supper-hour show “Compass”. He designed commercial printing material for promotional use for all departments including Sales and Radio. He did photography, set design, building, construction, as well as transporting set elements. He worked for CBC for 20 years.
From his home on the historical Victoria Row, he continued working as a Graphic Designer with his buddy Copper, the cat who was always by his side. He designed 19 books for authors as well as many other design projects and fine art paintings. He was well known to support many community events, attending with his camera capturing eclectic subject matter.
