Holland College President's Office
For 27 years, Albert Roche held numerous leadership roles at Holland College, including Instructor, Program Manager, Manager of Student Services, and Director of Athletics and Recreation. In each of these roles, Albert consistently worked to create meaningful and enriching experiences for Holland College’s students.
Under his leadership, the Holland Hurricanes evolved from a concept to a recognized and respected brand throughout the Maritimes and across the country, earning numerous titles and banners at both the regional and national levels. Notably, the Hurricanes won close to 20 medals nationally and 65 regional titles in a wide variety of sports. The Hurricanes also became widely known as an exceptional host for many Atlantic and Canadian championship events.
Albert’s contributions have been acknowledged through Staff Leadership Awards, as well as the prestigious national recognition of Athletic Director of the Year from CCAA in 2013. His unwavering commitment to enhancing student experiences through sport had a lasting and positive impact on hundreds of students.
Albert retired as Holland College’s Director of Athletics and Recreation in July of 2025. To honour his significant contribution to the establishment, growth, and remarkable success of Holland Hurricanes Athletics, the college established the Albert Roche Emerging Leader in Athletics Award.
Aligned with Albert’s own journey as a multi-sport athlete, this award will be designated to recognize outstanding, multi-sport student athletes who show promise in becoming impactful collegiate athletes and contributors to the broader Holland College community. Commencing in 2026, a $1,000 entrance award will be available to deserving students.
