George MacNeil, in Memory of

The MacNeil family – Michael, Peter, Gaylene (Weavers), and Gloria (Wooldridge) established the George MacNeil Memorial Award in memory of their father, George MacNeil, who passed away in May 2023.
George worked for the PEI Government in his early career and held the position of Director of Computer Services. Additionally, as an entrepreneur and as a forward-thinking pioneer in the computer industry, he developed what at the time was brand-new technology; the first computerized software for reservation systems in Canada. He also designed the early provincial licensing permit system which allowed the inclusion of ID photos, birth dates, and serial numbers.
His family is honouring his memory and his life’s work by establishing an annual award for students enrolled in Holland College’s Computer Information Systems program.
