Florence Simmons, in Memory of
Florence Simmons passed away in 2014 in her 100th year. Florence grew up in Charlottetown and attended Prince of Wales College in the 1930s, graduating with honours at the age of 19. After graduation, Florence was employed by an insurance company, and then obtained work with the Bank of Nova Scotia in Charlottetown. She learned to play the piano as a young girl, and her creativity was also expressed through drawing, sketching, and painting. Given her love of the arts, Florence named the Holland College Foundation in her will, benefiting the College’s new performance hall, as well as student financial aid for students attending the School of Performing Arts.
