Earl and Edith B. Beaton, in Memory of

Dave Beaton established an award in memory of his parents, celebrating deserving students who graduated from the Adult Education program. Edith Bell Beaton was born in Charlottetown in 1931. She attended Prince Street School and upon graduating started working at Maritime Electric at age 18. She continued to work with Maritime Electric receiving many promotions throughout her 36-year career. Edie was a very generous individual always giving money to people on the street and supporting organizations such as World Vision. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed her summers at the campground. She also loved to travel and certainly, one of the highlights of her life was a trip to Australia. Edie was a passionate reader usually with two books on the go at one time. She also loved to write poetry and on many occasions, people would approach her to write a poem for their special occasions. Earl was a well-known Island businessman, and his later-life endeavours involved the operation and advancement of many other local businesses, earning him the respect that was felt by the business community when he was named a Recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship by the Charlottetown Rotary Club. Earl’s community service was broad and was evidenced by his life-long service to Zion Presbyterian Church in Charlottetown and his long service as a Board member at St. John House.
